Immaculate Contraception

This is a conversation I spotted on Facebook this morning. I’ve changed the user names to protect their identity…

Concerned Citizen: Women on the Obama White House staff earn 18% less than their male counterparts. This war on women must end.

Toy Collector: So must this joke.

Concerned Citizen: The war on women is no joke. It must end.

Toy Collector: The willful killing of a joke carries a hefty sentence, you know.

Concerned Citizen: As a man, you can’t possibly understand this war on women. I don’t pretend to. I just know it must end.

Toy Collector: Does anyone really like performance art?

Concerned Citizen: Ask MSNBC.

Toy Collector: Are you MSNBC?

Concerned Citizen: MSNBC is making sure everyone is aware of the war on women. They are not as interested in the war on religion.

Toy Collector: Yeah but religion is boring. Women are not.

Concerned Citizen: This war on religious women must end.

Toy Collector: Are you talking about naughty nuns?

Concerned Citizen: Yes

Toy Collector: They have nasty habits.

Concerned Citizen: And unless this war on women ends, they will be unable to get free contraceptives.

Toy Collector: Immaculate contraception?

Concerned Citizen: It’s in the constitution.

Obsessed Lunch Fan: Malibu Shack pays female employees 23% more than male employees. I love Malibu Shack.

Spring training is over

When it comes to baseball and politics, you’ve got to keep your eye on the ball. The GOP primary is just spring training. The regular season is the battle against Obama in the general election.

Rick Santorum performed just about as well as he possibly can Tuesday night by winning both Alabama and Mississippi. Popular opinion says Gingrich flopped.

But here’s the thing most people don’t understand; Romney actually increased his delegate lead. By winning Hawaii and American Samoa, Romney added 41 delegates. Santorum only picked up 27. Gingrich trailed Santorum by just 3, and everybody’s telling him to get out of the race.

So here’s the score so far: Romney (496), Santorum (236), Gingrich (141) and crazy uncle Ron (67).

Mitt Romney has proven the primary to be over — and he is The Man.

So here’s the message all conservatives should learn: It’s time to start the real season. Romney got the message. He knows he’s not as conservative as the Tea Party would like. But by today’s standard, Ronald Reagan wouldn’t qualify either.

Romney has kept his eye on the ball. He hasn’t tried to move right. He knows that, like Reagan, he has to run as a moderate to get elected. The guy is smart. He’s a problem solver. And if you look at where he actually stands on the issues, he’s actually slightly right of Reagan.

The press won’t make it easy; they’re gonna keep calling this thing a dogfight, and throwing read meat at Santorum and Gingrich. They need to show a little discipline and do what’s best for the team. Endorse Romney and get ready for opening day.

The genius of Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch is to have discovered a niche audience of American broadcast news, namely, half of the American people.
